Windies 'B' Restricted to 193 by Bangladesh

Pacer Mohammed Kabir grabbed four wickets as Bangladesh "A" restricted West Indies "B" to a sub-200 total on the opening day of their 2002 Busta Cup first round match at the Edgar Gilbert Park Friday.

At stumps, Bangladesh "A", replying to the West Indies "B" team score of 193 all out, were four without loss.

Kabir picked up four for 52 off 16 overs, and supported by two-wicket efforts from medium pacer Mohammed Anwar Hossain and leg-spinner Mosaddek Hossain, troubled the region's "Development Team" batsmen on a rain affected day.

After touring skipper Akram Khan called right and sent West Indies "B" to bat, Bangladesh "A", on debut in the Caribbean, quickly reduced the regional side to 48 for four with Kabir sending back opener Patrick Browne (5) and number three batsman Krishna Arjune (4) cheaply.

Shane Jeffers, batting at number three was defiant with 26, and top scorer Carlton Baugh (37) revived the Windies "B" with a fighting innings before he was caught behind off Mohamed Anwar Hossain.

Rain had stopped play 15 minutes before the lunch break that was taken with West Indies "B" on 68 for four.

Former West Indies batsman Roland Holder, captain of the young team, made 15, before he was caught at second slip by Hannan Sarker off Kabir.

There was late order resistance from Callitos Lopez (29), Antonio Mayers (24) and Elsroy Powell (22), but the tourists kept their grip and completed their late evening stay at the crease without any damage.

The not out batsmen are Hannan Sarker (3) and Ehsanul Hoque (1).
