Day 2: Morton's 102 Leads Leewards

The Leewards Islands, led by a fine unbeaten 102 from middle order batsman Runako Morton, was engaged in an intriguing battle for honours against Trinidad and Tobago at the end of the second day in their opening Busta Cup match at the Queen's Park Oval today.

After dismissing Trinidad and Tobago for 354, the Leewards closed at 244 for five, still 110 runs away with half their wickets intact.

Morton featured in a second wicket partnership of 119 with skipper Stuart Williams (86) as the Leewards looked imposing at 156 before losing Williams.

Williams who struck 13 boundaries in his 158 minutes at the wicket was trapped lbw by leg spinner Solomon Badree.

Once he departed, the Leewards lost three quick wickets with Junior Mitchum (8), Dave Joseph (8) and Omarie Banks (9), all failing.

Morton has so far batted for 243 minutes and struck 14 fours and one six in his 168 ball innings.

Marlon Black (2-33) was T&T's best bowler.

Earlier T&T resumed at 310 for six but lost their last four wickets for 44 runs.

Centurion Lincoln Roberts added just ten to his 107 as he and Dave Mohammed (52) took their partnership to 104 for the seventh wicket.

But after Roberts' dismissal at 338, T&T could only add 16 runs for the last three wickets.

Kerry Jeremy (4-80) and Adam Sandford (3-42) were the most successful bowlers for the Leewards.
