Hafiz Officially Listed Among WTC Missing

Former Guyana middle order batsman Nezam Hafiz was officially listed among the World Trade Center missing on Tuesday.

Hafiz, who played six first class matches for both Guyana and the U.S.A between 1988 and 1991 perished in the September 11 terrorist attacks but his remains has not yet been identified.

Hafiz, a stylish right-handed batsman, played for the Malteenoes Sports Club in Georgetown, Guyana.

New York City officials released a list of 2,188 people reported missing but whose remains have not been identified.

Since September 11, the medical examiner has released the names of 692 people killed in the attacks as their remains were identified. In all, the city said 2,870 people perished when terrorists slammed two commercial jets into the landmark towers.

The list was released as part of efforts by the medical examiner to collect more DNA evidence that could help identify the victims.

Relatives of victims has already given items like hairbrushes, toothbrushes and razors, with the understanding that DNA samples could be taken from hair or traces of saliva.

"Unfortunately, in some instances, personal articles submitted did not produce conclusive DNA profiles, and we now must collect more DNA material," the office said.

Hafiz's family has already submitted items needed for DNA collection.
