Hooper, Chanderpaul in; Cush, Dowlin Out

Middle order batsmen Travis Dowlin and Lennox Cush have been axed from the Guyana team to take on Trinidad and Tobago in their fifth round Busta Cup match beginning Friday at the Albion Community Centre ground in Berbice.

The two have been dropped to make way for West Indies players, captain Carl Hooper and Shivnarine Chanderpaul.

Hooper and Chanderpaul were expected in the country Tuesday after the Test and one-day series against Pakistan in Sharjah.

For Dowlin, it?s a major setback since the diminutive right-hander was already being mentioned in West Indian circles after his impressive 2001 season. This year he has paid the price for managing a mere 58 runs from seven innings, with 19 being his highest score.

Cush, on the other hand, got starts but failed to capitilise - resulting in a total of 154 from seven innings. He reached the 40s twice, falling for 48 against Jamaica and 44 against the Windwards.

West Indies Under-19 captain Narsingh Deonarine has been retained after failing in his only innings, against Bangladesh ?A? at Bourda. Also in the squad is middle-order batsman Homchand Pooran who was 12th man at Bourda.

Hooper has taken over the captaincy from leg-spinner Mahendra Nagamootoo.

The team: Carl Hooper, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Mahendra Nagamootoo, Neil McGarrell, Reon King, Kevin Darlington, Azeemul Haniff, Sewnarine Chattergoon, Narsingh Deonarine, Homchand Pooran, Andre Percival, Reon Griffith and Azib Alli Hanif.
