Nagas Injuries 'Not Serious' - Chetty

West Indies leg spinner Mahendra Nagamootoo suffered head and facial injures in a mini-bus crash on Friday and reports out of Trinidad and Tobago suggest he is conscious and recovering well.

The 27-year-old was travelling in a mini-bus in Berbice, Guyana when a cow cross the road forced the vehicle to run off the road and crash. He was rushed to the hospital, received 15 stitches for lacerations on his head and face and was flown to Trinidad for extended treatment.

Officials at the St Claire Medical Complex in Trinidad said Nagamootoo suffered bruises to his face and feet and was being kept for observation. The main worry, they say, is that he may have suffered head and internal injuries.

Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) president Chetty Singh believes Nagamootoo's injuries aren't life threatening. "He is conscious and I don't think it's that serious but then again you don't know about internal injuries," Singh told the BBC.

Nagamootoo had just returned to Guyana after the Third test to be honoured by the GCB for winning the Busta Cup. He appeared in the first Test of the current series in Guyana but missed the Trinidad Test with a hamstring injury.

The accident automatically rules him out of the next Test match at Kensington Oval in Barbados, which starts on Friday May 3 and possibly the remainder of the series.
