Highlights & Lowlights From the ARG Test

The fourth Test between India and West Indies may have resembled a funeral march towards the end but there were quite a few statistical accomplishments (good and bad) coming out of that match at the Antigua Recreation Ground.

From Sachin Tendulkar's first ball duck to both wicketkeepers getting centuries in the same match for the first time ever in the history of Test cricket, our resident statistics guru digs up the milestones:

-- Sachin Tendulkar was dismissed first-ball for the fourth time of his Test career. The last such dismissal came against Pakistan at Calcutta when Shoaib Akhtar yorked him in the first innings of the Asian Test Championship in 1999. This duck was Tendulkar's 10th of his career in his 95th match.

-- Tendulkar became the only sixth genuine visiting batsman to score 3 ducks in a series in the West Indies after Jack Iddon (Eng in 1934-35), Ken Rutherford (NZ in 1984-85), Mark Butcher (Eng in 1997-98), Matthew Elliott (Aus in 1998-99) and Gary Kirsten (SAf in 2000-01).

-- Playing in his 34th Test, VVS Laxman became the 27th Indian batsman to aggregate 2000 Test runs.

-- The 217-run partnership between VVS Laxman and Ajay Ratra is the new 7th wicket partnership record at the ARG.

-- Merv Dillon bowled 51 overs to became the only West Indian fast bowler to deliver more than 50 overs in a Test innings on two separate occasions. He had also bowled 51 overs against Sri Lanka at Galle in November last.

Only two other West Indian pace bowlers have delivered more than 50 overs in a Test innings: John Shepherd (58.5 overs) vs England at Manchester in 1969 and Herman Griffith (58 overs) vs England at Kingston in 1930.

-- India?s 513-9 (declared) became their highest total in the Caribbean, obliterating the 469-7 at Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago during the 1983 series.

-- The 186 run partnership between Carl Hooper and Shivnarine Chanderpaul was the third between this pair for the 5th wicket in this series. They now emulate Jack Hobbs & Herbert Sutcliffe of England, for 1st wicket partnership vs Australia in 1926, Bill Woodfull & Don Bradman for 2nd wicket partnership vs South Africa, 1931-32 and Graham Gooch & Mike Atherton for 1st wicket vs India, 1990, as the fourth pair in Test cricket history to register 150-plus partnerships for the same wicket and in the same series.

-- Hooper became the 11th batsman to score three or more hundreds in a series against India for the 13th time. West Indians Everton Weekes and Gary Sobers being the only others to do it twice. Australian Don Bradman in 1947-48, Everton Weekes in 1948-49 and Pakistani Mudassar Nazar in 1982-83 are the only three batsmen to make four hundreds in a series against India.

-- The Guyana pair of Hooper and Chanderpaul became the first pair from the same Caribbean territory to score three or more centuries in the same series since Gary Sobers & Conrad Hunte (Barbados) made 3 centuries each in the West Indies v Pakistan rubber of 1957-58.

-- This was the 13th occasion when three or more hundreds have been scored in the same innings by the West Indian batsmen. It was the eighth time that this feat was achieved against India. The last occasion West Indies did so against any team was against New Zealand at Wellington in 1995 during their innings of 660-5 declared.

-- For the first time in 125 years of Test cricket history, both wicketkeepers, Ajay Ratra 115* and Ridley Jacobs 118 have scored centuries in the same match.

-- In his 25th match, Merv Dillon registered his highest career score of 43, bettering the previous best of 36 he made against South Africa at Cape Town in January 1999.

-- All eleven members of India side bowled in the same innings of a match for only the third time in Test cricket history. The other two instances were in 1884 when all eleven England bowlers bowled during Australia's innings of 551 at The Oval and in 1980 by the Australian side against Pakistan (382-2) at Faisalabad.

-- West Indies' 629-9 (declared) was the highest score made by any team at this ground, bettering the 593-5d by West Indies and the 593 by England in the same match in 1994.
