Rain Robs Windies in First ODI

Jamaica is slowly resembling Guyana on the international cricket circuit. A heavy downpour during the innings break in the first ODI between West Indies and New Zealand forced the cancellation of the match after the Caribbean side had sliced through the visiting batting.

Batting first, New Zealand were bowled out for 176 in 49.4 overs with part-time off-spinner Chris Gayle grabbing three wickets. Three other bowlers -- Merv Dillon, Cameron Cuffy and Ryan Hinds -- took two wickets each.

During the lunch break, the rains which has caused widespread flooding and untold damage in Jamaica, came pouring down, forcing the umpires to call off the match.

The five-match ODI series moves to St Lucia on Saturday.
