Windies v NZ By The Numbers

The action in the New Zealand/West Indies series shifts to the Test arena today and our resident statistician Zito takes a look at the statistical evidence of Tests between the two teams.

Only three tours to the Caribbean have been undertaken by New Zealand. The first was in 1972, while the other two were in 1985 and 1996...

There have been 30 Tests between West Indies and New Zealand, of which WI won 10, NZ 6 and 14 were drawn. New Zealand played 11 Tests in the Caribbean of which WI won 3 and 8 were drawn. In the first tour by New Zealand, all five matches were drawn.

That series was known for Lawrence Rowe's unique achievement of 214 and 100* on debut and Glenn Turner's 223* in response at Sabina Park. Alvin Kallicharan made 100* on debut in the fourth Test at Bourda, followed by 101 in his next inning in the fifth Test at Queen's Park Oval, Trinidad. Turner made 672 runs at an average of 96 followed by Bevan Congdon (531 @88.50). Taylor took 27 wickets at average of 17.70.
