West Indians, The US Navy and Cricket

This is just a quick note to let everyone know about West Indians and the way we love the game of cricket.

I am stationed on USS La Salle, a U.S Navy ship based in Italy. I thought I would never be able to play cricket again after I left Guyana but I quickly found out how much this game means to all of us in the West Indies.

Recently, I organised a bunch of other guys on the ship to start playing and encouraging others to play the game. We started with five players and we have we have 15 players all ready to play a match. I'm proud to say we are the only cricket team in the Navy and, yes we are registered.

It is because of the love of the game among my West Indian shipmates that this was possible.

The LaSalle Cricket Club is stationed in Italy and we are issuing a challenge to any team in Italy or passing through. We plan on keeping the cricket spirit alive wherever we go.
