Greenidge & Haynes Owed $192,000
Financial trouble at one of Barbados' main tourism promotion
agency agencies has trickled down to former West Indies opening
batsmen Gordon Greenidge and Desmond Haynes.
According to a newspaper report, money troubles as Gems of Barbados
mean that it could not pay $192,000 owed to the legendary openers
for work done to boost the Caribbean island's sports tourism
profile.
At the end of March 2002, Greenidge and Haynes still owed
gratuities for the years 2000 and 2001 to the tune of $117,000.
Greenidge is owed $97,500 and Haynes is owed $94,500.
The two former cricketers inked six-year contracts in December 1998
to assist with the marketing of Gems in cricket-playing countries
and help the Ministry of Education and Sport.
