Dropping 'Nagas' Made No Sense - Holding

"You cannot pick a specialist spinner, bring him to India, look at the pitches that we have seen here and then not select him, that just doesn?t make cricket sense."

That's the sentiment from former West Indies pacer-turned commentator Michael Holding on the dropping of leg-spinner Mahendra Nagamootoo for the second Test. Holding, who is covering the tour for television said he was surprised Nagamootoo was left out of the second Test side on the spin bowling friendly pitch at Chennai.

According to a report in the Trinidad Guardian, Holding believes Nagamootoo would significantly bolster regional side's bowling attack, especially since India had turned to spin as their main tool in their dominance over the West Indies so far in the series.

"I think if Nagamootoo was in the team, with himself and Breese, plus Carl Hooper, perhaps that combination of spin bowlers could have done some damage," Holding said.

Nagamootoo took 3-142 off 47 overs in the only innings of the first Test in Mumbai.
