In the midst of the debacle at Chennai when the West Indies lost badly (again) to India, Caribbeancricket.com statistician Zito sifts through the record books and find some interesting tid-bits from the second Test.

From Sachin Tendulkar to Wavell Hinds to Harbajan Singh to Ridley Jacobs, some useful cricket records were set during the game. Here are a few of the statistical nuggets (highlights and lowlights) from the second Test...

Jermaine Lawson (20 years, 277 days) became the third youngest West Indian to make his Test debut in India after Malcolm Marshall (20 years, 241 days in 1978) and Roger Harper (20 years, 268 days in 1983).

Playing in his 75th Test match, Anil Kumble, claimed his 20th five-plus wicket haul of his career. The first innings dismissal of Ryan Hinds pushed Kumble passed Kapil Dev?s record of 219 wickets on Indian soil. He now has 223 wickets at home.

Harbhajan Singh passed 50 wickets for this calendar year when he dismissed Wavell Hinds in the second innings. His wicket tally for the calendar year of 2002 now stands at 53 in 10 matches. This is the second time he has achieve this feat (during the calendar year of 2001, he had 60 wickets in 12 matches at an average of 25.95). He passed the tally of 48 wickets in 6 matches for this calendar year held by Muttiah Muralitharan. Also, Kumble now has 46 wickets in 9 matches in 2002.

The last occasion that India managed to dismiss the West Indies side on the first day of a Test match was in 1979. The West Indies were then dismissed for 228 in 72.5 overs at the same ground.

During the first innings, Sachin Tendulkar became the first batsman in history to aggregate 20,000 runs in both Test and ODI matches. Tendulkar who has 8499 runs in Tests and 11544 runs in ODIs, for an aggregate of 20043 runs.

For the first time in his career, Ridley Jacobs effected a stumping of his opposite number, Parthiv Patel. This stumping was Jacobs' seventh of his career.

In the second innings, the 96-run partnership between Wavell Hinds and Ramnaresh Sarwan was the best for the 2nd wicket for the West Indies at this ground. The previous best was 80 runs between Jeff Stollmeyer and Clyde Walcott during the 1948-49 series.

Carl Hooper (2-32) recorded his best bowling figures of his career as a captain in his 21st match. His previous best bowling performance was the 2-44 against New Zealand at Grenada in June this year. Hooper now has 20 wickets in 21 matches as captain.

Ganguly became the first captain to lead India to three wins against the West Indies. Ganguly passed the Nawab of Pataudi Jr, who led India to two victories against the West Indies.

India's victory by eight wickets was its best in terms of wickets against the West Indies in Tests. It previous best was seven wicket at Port-of-Spain in 1971.

This was the only second time India achieved a back-to-back win against the Caribbean side. In the 1974-75 series, India had won the third and fourth Tests at Calcutta and Madras respectively.

This was the West Indies' seventh loss in India in 39 matches. The West Indies have now lost four matches at Chennai, two at the Mumbai and one at the Kolkata

This was the tenth successive loss in the sub-continent by the West Indies since November 1997. It was also the team's 25th loss in 29 away matches during this period.

This was India's only third series win against the West Indies in 17 rubbers. India won the five-match series in the West Indies 1-0 in 1970-71 and the six match-Test series in India 1-0 in 1978-79

David Shepherd equalled the English record of Dickie Bird when he officiated in his 66th Test match. Only Steve Bucknor has stood in more Tests (71) than Shepherd.
