Chanderpaul: 'We Can Win This One'

West Indies middle order mainstay Shivnarine Chanderpaul believes his team has more than a fair chance to win the third and final Test against India.

Immediately after finishing the day with a flawless unbeaten 136 to put West Indies in command, the Guyanese left-hander declined to discuss what target was needed to pull off a face-saving win but insisted the Caribbean side can upset the applecate. Asked if West Indies, who now enjoy a 88-run first innings lead, had a chance to win the game, Chanderpaul simply said, "yes, I think so".

Chanderpaul, who looked emotional after reaching 100 on the 'best track in the series', now stood only four runs away from his Test highest of 140.

"This is a wicket where you have to work hard. It is not an easy wicket to play shots," Chanderpaul said. His innings, however, had some classy shots with 16 hits to the fence and a six off Anil Kumble.

He rated his sixth Test century, the first overseas, as his best so far and credited batting partner Marlon Samuels, who played his first match of the series and remained unbeaten at a career-best 89. "It's always good to have a partner who takes off a lot of pressure off you".

Chanderpaul and Samuels added 191 runs in 56.5 overs, staying at the crease for about 234 minutes, to take the pressure off the Windies after the fall of two quick wickets of Chris Gayle and skipper Carl Hooper in the morning session.
