Chanders, Gayle Jump in PwC Rankings

West Indian batsmen Chris Gayle and Shiv Chanderpaul made huge jumps in the latest PricewaterhouseCoopers Ratings of international cricketers.

The latest rankings show Chanderpaul gaining five spots to move up to 13th on the list with 757 points after the third Test against India at Kolkata. The Guyanese left-hander enjoyed another phenomenal series against India, finishing with 260 runs (avg. 65.00).

Gayle was the biggest gainer this month, jumping seven spots to 30th in the ratings. The Jamaican opener, who finished fourth in the latest India Test series with a 32.00 average was ranked ahead of Ramnaresh Sarwan (31) and opening partner Wavell Hinds (39).

The highest-ranked West Indian batsman was Brian Lara, who dropped one spot to number 7, mostly due to being inactive with an illness. Captain Carl Hooper, down two spots to number 28, is the only other Caribbean batsman in the top 30.

Among bowlers, Merv Dillon (12) was the top-ranked West Indian. Cameron Cuffy jumped two spots to number 29 in the rankings and Pedro Collins (42) was the only other West Indian bowler to crack the top 50.
