Knee Surgery Likely for Hooper

West Indies skipper Carl Hooper will continue to play through the remainder of the West Indies tour of India and Bangladesh with a painful right knee that might eventually require surgery, the Barbados Nation reported Wednesday.

Team doctor Akshai Mansingh was said to be "monitoring and managing" the injury on a daily basis but insists it would not prevent Hooper from playing in the seven ODIs against India.

Commentators during the third and final Test against India that ended in a draw Sunday stated that Hooper would have an operation on his knee but gave no time frame. Team manager Ricky Skerritt said that was not a consideration at this point.

Hooper has been troubled by the problem since the first Test in Mumbai since when he has been receiving treatment. It could explain why he did not bowl more than 59.5 overs in the three Tests.

Fast bowler Cameron Cuffy is also being treated for a hamstring strain and was not included in the 11 for the first ODI. He is expected to be fit in time for the second match in Nagpur on Saturday.
