T&T Looks to Phil Simmons

The Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board of Control (TTCBC) is seeking sponsorship to finance a contract that will guarantee the services of Phil Simmons as the national coach for the 2003 season.

Alloy Lequay, president and chief executive officer (CEO) of the Cricket Board, confirmed that his organisation was making all efforts to have Simmons return as coach, but it would depend on sponsorship and if the TTCBC could meet his demands.

Lequay said his Board was in contact with Simmons who has indicated an interest in coaching the team.
"He has submitted a request for us to provide him with return airfare. As you know, he lives in England. He wants accommodation, a coaching fee and transportion during his stay."

Lequay, who did not disclosed the cost of Simmons' contract, said if the sponsor could not be found, the Board would have to change its plans.

"If we get a sponsor, Phil will be here from month-end until our first game at the end of January. It will not be like last season when he came late. He will spend more time with the team in its preparations for the regional tournament which starts in January," said Lequay.
