Lawson Returns to India

Jermaine Lawson will get a chance to further his claims on permanent place in the senior side. The twenty year old Jamaican fast bowler who bowled well in his debut will come in for injured Barbadian allrounder Ryan Hinds.

Hinds tore ligaments in his left knee while fielding as a substitute in in fourth ODI and is returning to the Caribbean for treatment. It is not known how extensive the injury is, or whether it will require surgery, but he is expected to be out of action for 4 to 6 weeks.

Lawson's reselection comes at an interesting time after all the West Indian front line bowlers have been punished by a combination of lifeless pitches and brilliant batting by the Indians in the current one day series. If he is selected to the final XI and can perform well in the remaining matches it will go a long way towards cementing a place in the West Indies senior side.

Meanwhile, the West Indies perennial overseas injuries continue with Cameron Cuffy out with a leg strain, Mervyn Dillon and Pedro Collins with back strains and Captain Carl Hooper due for knee surgery at the end of the current series. Marlon Samuels and mainstay Shivnarine Chanderpaul have both passed fitness tests after a twisted ankle and back strain respectively.
