Smith, Jeremy in World Cup Squad

The international careers of Vincentian fast bowler Nixon McLean and Barbadian batsmen Floyd Reifer have been given new life by the West Indies selectors, who named the duo in a 30-man squad to prepare for next year's World Cup tournament in South Africa.

McLean and Reifer were among a group that also included newcomers Devon Smith, Suliemann Benn and Ian Bradshaw. Also recalled were pacers Reon King and Kerry Jeremy.

The selectors also named Jamaican Keith Hibbert in the 30-man squad, a strong hint he is the man who will understudy the ageing Ridley Jacobs. As expected, Brian Lara was named in the squad to make his return to international cricket.

The squad will be reduced to 15 by December 31 this year in accordance with ICC regulations. All participating countries had to submit a provisional squad of 30 to the ICC by November 30 or the first working day that followed. Players not named in the provisional squad of 30 can only be included in cases of injury or exceptional circumstances.
