Drakes Gets Off On Technicality

Barbadian allrounder Vasbert Drakes, who was fined half his match fee during the Red Stripe Bowl for showing dissent, has had his fine overturned following a review by the WICB.

The Board decided to rescind the fine after it discovered that due process had not been followed at the disciplinary hearing that imposed the penalty.

Both Drakes and Barbados manager Johnny Gayle attended the meeting, but under the Board's Code of conduct Barbados captain Courtney Browne should also have been given notice of the hearing.

Drakes was only recently re-admitted to the West Indies fold following several seasons of playing in South Africa, after the WICB amended its policy of excluding Caribbean players who were unavailable for the domestic seasons.
