Gayle Leads CEAT Cricket Rating

West Indies opener Chris Gayle is leading the CEAT International Cricket Rating with total 80 points, including 63 batting, 14 bowling and three fielding points, as on December 13 last year.

Sanjiv Goenka, Vice-Chairman RPG Group said Gayle was followed by India's Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag with 79 points (70 batting, 0 bowling, 9 fielding) and 58 points (46 batting, 5 bowling, 7 fielding) respectively.

Jacques Kallis of South Africa was declared joint third (34 batting, 22 bowling, 2 fielding) while Michael Vaughan of England was declared at the fifth spot with 57 total points (52 batting, 4 bowling, 1 fielding).

Among the countries, Australia was at the top with a total 62 points(47 test, ODI 15) followed by India at the second with a total of 60 points (23 test, ODI 37).

Among the countries, India has bagged the maximum ODI points.

Pakistan was ranked third with a total 57 points(28 test, 29 ODI) followed by Sri Lanka with a total 56 points (28 test, 28 ODI) and West Indies with a total 51 points (23 test, 28 ODI).

Among the individual cricketers, Rahul Dravid scored the maximum batting points of 70. The final CEAT Cricket Rating Award for 2000-2001 would be announced soon and the award ceremony would be held in Mumbai before the World Cup in January next.

Last year, Muthiah Muralithatran topped the rating with 149 points, including 144 bowling points alone. Australia bagged the maximum points of 112.

The CEAT cricket rating governing council is led by Sunil Gavaskar of India, Ian Chappel of Australia and Clive Lloyd of West Indies. The award had been instituted since 1995 and applied to all forms of international matches.
