Carib Round One: Day Two Reports

Barbadian all-rounder Ryan Hurley scored his second first class century and then grabbed one wicket late in the day to put his team in a strong position at the end of the second day of their Carib Beer Series cricket in St Vincent.

At the close, the Windwards were79 runs ahead on second innings with only five wickets standing at 155 for five. Scores: Windwards 156 and 155 for five; Barbados 232.

The day belonged to Barbados and in particular Hurley who hit an aggressive 116 to assure his team a first innings lead of 77 -- unlikely when they had slumped to 99 for six at lunch.

But he shared a crucial seventh wicket half century partnership with Ian Bradshaw who scored only 11, and took his chances with the tail surviving two chances.

Barbados had resumed from their overnight 42 for three and quickly ran into trouble after Philo Wallace (21) was caught behind by Junior Murray off Orlanzo Jackson who ended with five for 80.

Dwayne Smith who looked to play his shots at every opportunity swung a Jackson long hop to Deighton Butler on the square leg boundary when he had reached a threatening 39.

Then Courtney Browne, after he scored 11, was caught at shot fine leg off Shane Shillingford with the score at 99. The Barbadian innings was then in dire straits before Hurley led the late order rescue mission.

Facing a deficit of 76 Windward Islands openers Devon Smith (55) and Rommel Currency (42) added 91 for the first wicket in an attempt to bat the team back into the game.

But floodgates were opened once Smith was given out leg before sweeping at Sulieman Benn from a ball that might have missed the leg stump. Currency soon followed another Benn victim, and then Murray, who scored only tow in the first innings was for the second time in the game out leg before playing across the line.

Kester Sylvester, who looked out of his debts the entire innings was brilliant caught by Floyd Reifer off Been for 19 and then Rawl Lewis, playing across the line, was trapped leg before for a duck.

Benn ended with four 34, and looking forward to add more victims on the third day which now looks likely to be the final day of the match. (Compliments of CaribUpdate)

Percival, Haniff Push Guyana Past T&T

A solid unbeaten 76 from former West Indies youth Player Andre Percival paced Guyana to first innings points over Trinidad & Tobago at Guaracara Park at the end of the second day's play.

Percival partnered with DCC batsman Travis Dowlin (49) to push Guyana past T&T's first innings score of 303. Scores: Trinidad & Tobago 303; Guyana 304 for six.

Earlier in the day openers Azeemul Haniff (62) and Hemnauth Chattergoon (36) gave Guyana a brilliant century opening stand. Krishna Arjune chipped in with 36 as well.

The other batsmen to go were Lennox Cush (02) and skipper Neil McGarrell, out off the final ball of the day for 8.

For Trinidad & Tobago, there were two wickets each for Marlon Black, Ravi Rampaul and Dinanath Ramnarine.

Jamaica, Leewards Evenly Poised

Jamaica and the Leewards were locked in a keen struggle in Anguilla when bad light stopped play 15 minutes before the close.

At the end of the second day's play, Jamaica reached 152 for three, chasing the Leewards first innings score of 357.

Scores: Leewards 357 (Omari Banks 75, Stuart Williams 71, Ian Tittle 68). David Bernard led the bowlers for Jamaica with 4-101.
