Chanderpaul Slams 88-ball 97*

The West Indies warmed up for the World Cup tournament with an easy 41-run victory over South Africa's Free State, thanks to a quickfire 97 from just 88 balls by Guyanese left-hander Shivnarine Chanderpaul.

Chanderpaul stroked 13 boundaries in his unbeaten knock as the West Indies reached 267 for eight from 50 overs. In Reply, Free State reached 226 for eight from their 50 overs.

Champion batsman Brian Lara, returning for the first time since a mystery illness sidelined him from the regional side, helped himself to 45 as the West Indies got its first taste of the conditions in South Africa. Chris Gayle supported well with 45.

Free State opener Johnathon Beukes kept things interesting with a solid 96 but there never was a serious threat to the West Indies total after pacer Corey Collymore sliced through the top of the order with three quick wickets.

Collymore finished with 3-20 from six overs. Part-time offspinner Ricardo Powell took 3 for 67 from 10 overs.

The West Indies' next warm up game is against Griqualand West on Wednesday in Kimberley.
