Hooper Slams 100* as Windies Cruise
West Indies captain Carl Hooper spanked a quickfire unbeaten century in a World Cup warm-up game to lead his side to a comprehensive 142-run victory over South African club side Griqualand West at Kimberley.
Hooper's even 100 not out came off just 69 balls and included nine fours and two big sixes. Also among the runs were operner Wavell Hinds (96 off 83 balls) and Ronnie Sarwan (80 off 87 balls) as the West Indies cruised to 360 for five from 50 overs.
Hooper's inning comes as a relief to West Indies cricket fans worried that surgical procedures to both knees recently might affect him on his return to competitive cricket.
When Griqualand West replied, the match quickly became a no-contest. AP McLaren battled well for 55 off 88 balls but the result was a foregone conclusion.
Fast bowlers Vasbert Drakes (2-44 from 10 overs) and Pedro Collins (2-44 from 10 overs) got some work in along with Merv Dillon (1-32 off eight overs).
