King, McGarrell, Jan Shine on Day One

Guyana pace/spin tandem Reon King and Neil McGarrel took five wickets apiece against West Indies 'B' and Trinidad & Tobago's Imran Jan continued his nice run with the bat as the third round of the Carib Beer competition kicked off on Friday.

Rain robbed the game between Barbados and Jamaica of a chunk of the opening day's play and, in the other match, India 'A' finally settled into a rhythm to reach 164 for one against the Leewards. Summarised scores follow...

Asked to bat first, Barbados reached 85 for three on a rain-shortened day. Kurt Wilkinson (32) and Floyd Reifer (21) were the not-out batsmen.

Windwards v T&T: Batting first, Trinidad & Tobago struggled to 156 for five. Imran Jan top scored with 67 while Dwayne Bravo scored 25. Cameron Curry (2-29) and Orlanzo Jackson (2-39) did the damage.

Leewards v India 'A': Batting first after losing the toss, India 'A' reached 164 for one at the close. Ashok Chopra slammed 79 while G. Ghambir was not out on 74.

Guyana v Windies 'B': Led by Reon King and Neil McGarrel, Guyana was on the verge of first innings points against West Indies 'B'. Batting first, Windies 'B' were skittled out fof 134 with Patrick Browne (41) and Narsingh Deonarine (39) offering token resistance. King grabbed 5-41 and McGarrel picked up 5-33. In reply, Guyana was 127 for six (Andre Percival 45; Sewnarine Chattergoon 41). Young Guyana pacer Rayon Thomas was sharp, picking up 4-29 for Windies 'B'.
