Third Round Carib Beer All-Stars

The third round of the Carib Beer Cup competition was completed and only one match resulted in an outright victory.

Rain affected all matches and in some instances changed the team approach to these matches. Nevertheless, some outstanding cricket was played across the region. My all-star team from the third round of play is as follows...

Only two centuries were recorded this round and they were both scored by wicket-keepers. Vishal Nagamootoo of Guyana scored an unbeaten 115 and Courtney Browne of Barbados scored 103, also unbeaten. Browne makes my all-star team as a batsman while Vishal Nagamootoo gets duties behind the stumps.

Floyd Reifer, who had two half centuries, and Ryan Hinds with a solid knock of 88 in Barbados' second innings against Jamaica, join fellow countryman and captain Courtney Browne in my third round team of stars.

The Trinidad & Tobago team sends three (3) members to this round's all-stars. They are Dwayne Bravo, Marlon Black and Imran Jan. All three had solid performances to help Trinidad & Tobago secure full points against the Windward Islands. Bravo had a match haul of 8-41, including first innings figures of 6 for 11, while Black turned in match figures of 6-118. Imran Jan had knocks of 67 and 31 with the bat.

Cameron Cuffy of the Windward Islands had an excellent performance in a losing cause with figures of 4-36 and 5-54 for a total match haul of 9-90. The Windwards' Romel Currency also had a good knock of 92.

Neil McGarrell of Guyana had an outstanding performance, grabbing two five-wicket hauls for his team. He joins fellow countryman Vishal Nagamootoo on the third round all-star team.

The sole West Indies 'B' representative on this team is Narsingh Deonarine, who had good knocks of 39 and 64 for his team in a losing cause.

The reserves batsmen are Gregory Mahabir of West Indies 'B', Junie Mitchum of the Leeward Islands and John Eugene of the Windwards. All had half-centuries for their respective teams. Reon King makes the reserve list with an excellent five-wicket haul in Guyana's first innings. He failed to get any wickets in the second innings. Ravi Rampaul is the other reserve bowler on account of his second innings haul of 4 for 49 to help secure a T&T outright victory.

My choices for players of the round are Neil McGarrell, Cameron Cuffy and Dwayne Bravo.
