Carib Beer Sixth Round All-Stars

This is the penultimate round of cricket in the Carib Beer Cup Series to be followed by the playoffs consisting of two additional rounds for the International Shield.

Only two centuries were scored in this round, one by veteran Stuart Williams of the Leeward Islands and the other by Junior Murray (wicket-keeper/batsman) from the Windwards. Both make their second appearances on my All-Star list.

Gareth Breese of Jamaica fell two runs shy of achieving that glorious mark but nevertheless, his knock was very crucial in securing an outright victory for Jamaica over Trinidad and Tobago. With that plus his balanced bowling makes him an All-Star for the first time this round.

Opener Devon Smith continues his good form with knocks of 53 and 49 to help the Windward Islands collect first innings from the West Indies 'B' and keeping their hope alive of getting in to the semi-finals. In making this round of All-Stars, Devon Smith now has the distinction of the only player to make it in three consecutive weeks and four times overall.

Narsingh Deonarine cracked two half-centuries in a losing cause for the West Indies 'B' and his standout performance earns him his second appearance on my weekly team. To round off the batsmen, Travis Dowlin of Guyana and Sherwin Campbell of Barbados also make their second appearances, having each scored a crucial half century for their respective team.

All the bowlers in this round of All stars are registering their first appearance. Jerome Taylor leads the list with an outstanding bowling performance in only his third first-class match. His second innings haul of 8-59 set up an important outright victory for Jamaica over Trinidad to earn him his first five-wicket haul. Having secured two scalps in the first innings, it also gives him his first 10-wicket match performance of his career.

Left arm spinner Dave Mohammed of Trinidad & Tobago is an All-Star this round for his five-wicket haul in only his first match of the series. Ian Bradshaw of Barbados and Jason Bennett of West Indies 'B' round out the bowlers as each returned total match hauls of six wickets.

The reserves consist of Tino Best and Ryan Hurley of Barbados, Keith Hibbert and Darren Powell of Jamaica and Alex Jackson of Trinidad and Tobago.

My player of the round is none other than the sensational Jerome Taylor.
