Sarwan Gets Ready for Second Test

Young Guyanese batting sensation Ramnaresh Sarwan seems set to represent the West Indies in the second Cable and Wireless Test starting at Queen's Park Oval on Saturday.

Sarwan, 22, who has been elevated to the vice-captaincy of the regional side, missed the first Test that ended yesterday at Bourda, due to a finger injury but created a stir when he took the middle at the Georgetown Cricket Club ground and had a 40-minute knock.

"At this point in time, I believe Sarwan is looking pretty certain to be considered for selection," West Indies coach Gus Logie told reporters after the match.

Among the bowlers giving Sarwan practice was his Guyana team-mate, fast bowler Rayon Griffith.

However, Logie said while reliable middle order batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul should recover from a blow to the knee to play in Trinidad and Tobago, wicketkeeper Ridley Jacobs, who damaged his groin during the Test match, is a doubtful starter.

"Chanderpaul's knee is still giving some problems. We hope with the few days rest, he would recover in time but at this point in time, Jacobs would be the one who is most doubtful," Logie said.

Both Jacobs and Chanderpaul had to use runners in the West Indies second innings.
