Gayle Sounds Warning with 129

Left-handed opener Chris Gayle celebrated his recall to the West Indies team Saturday with a quickfire 129 to help the University of the West Indies (UWI) Vice Chancellor's XI to 290 all out in a three-day match against the visiting Australians.

Gayle and Jason Haynes (58) set the new Three Ws Oval in Barbados alight in the early going but leg-spinner Stuart McGill (5-40) struck back to limit the Vice Chancellor's XI to 290.

All-rounder David Bernard, who was cut from the squad after making his debut in Trinidad, made 28 but none of the other batsmen could get among the runs. For Australia, left-arm spinner Brad Hogg took 3-94 while Glenn McGrath warmed up for the third Test with 2-41.

It was McGrath's first action on tour after he withdrew from the earlier games for personal reasons.

At the close of the first day, the Aussies were 61 without loss with Justin Langer and Jimmy Maher at the crease.
