Reifer to Lead Academy XI

Barbadian left-hander Floyd Reifer has been named to lead a Shell Cricket Academy team to play a limited-overs practice match against Sri Lanka on June 4.

The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) said Reifer will lead a 12-man squad to play the game, scheduled for the Queen's Park Stadium in Grenada. The team also includes first class cricketers Narsingh Deonarine, Kerry Jeremy, Kurt Wilkinson and Dwayne Bravo.

The 30-year-old Reifer appeared in four Tests for the West Indies in the late 1990s but failed to command a place in the middle order. Since then, however, he has been a consistent top performer in the regional first class competitions.

In the recent Carib Beer Cup tournament, Reifer averaged 48.00 from nine matches, collecting one century and four 50s (aggregate 624). But, with the emphasis on a youth brigade, he has not been able to win a recall to the senior side.
