It's Chetty v Rodriguez

The next president of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) will be either Guyana's cricket chief Chetram Singh or QPCC boss Willie Rodriguez.

Singh, the horse-race bookie from Guyana, was nominated by the Leeward Islands Cricket Association (LICA) and seconded by the Trinidad board, making him the obvious frontrunner to replace the departing Wes Hall.

Singh will run on a ticket with incumbent vice president Val Banks and go up against the pair of Willie Rodriguez and Lennox John. The Rodriguez/John slate was nominated by the Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) and seconded by the Windwards board.

With Val Banks as his running mate, Singh's ticket is secured an extra vote to add to the six from directors from Guyana, Trinidad and the Leewards. (Each territorial board has two votes while Val Banks and Wes Hall each own a vote).

To win the elections, Singh must get a vote from one of the two Barbadian directors or Wes Hall's. The Barbados Cricket Association (BCA), which met for a 'retreat' on Wednesday night, could not agree to a consensus candidate with some executives opposed to the plan to nominate former BCA head Tony Marshall.

By Thursday night, without a territorial board to second its nominee, the BCA decided against putting forward a slate, forcing Marshall to withdraw his name from the process.
