WIPA Wins Pay Hike for Players

Regional cricketers who played in this year's Carib Cup competition will receive an increase in the fees that were paid to them by the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB).

After the first players' strike in the history of cricket in the Caribbean, The West Indies Players Association (WIPA) and the WICB met last week to negotiate a payment structure and a deal was reached to raise the players' fees. No details of the new structure were made available.

The players' association also scored a deal for compensation for injured players. The injury compensation aspect of the agreement was retroactive to 1999.

No deal was however reached on the retainer contracts for West Indies senior players. The contracts proposal will be discussed at this weekend's board meeting in Dominica before discussions are held with WIPA.
