Millien Lands WICB Top Marketing Job
Trinidadian Darren Millien has landed the job as chief marketing executive (CME) of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB). The appointment takes effect on October 1.
Millien, who joined the Antigua-based WICB in 1998 as marketing manager in charge of events, promotion & IT will assume the post left vacant when Roger Brathwaite was handpicked to take over the CEO slot.
As chief marketing executive, Millien will be responsible for the overall performance of the commercial operations of the WICB. He will be in charge of development, marketing and sale of the intellectual and other property rights of the WICB, media broadcast rights, sponsorships, events, merchandising and licensing, as well as the general promotion of West Indies cricket.
Most recently, Millien was credited with scoring sponsorship deals with Carib Brewery (for the regional one-day tournament) and TCL Group (for the Under-19 championship). He was also a key part of negotiations with Red Stripe Brewery for their sponsorship of the Red Stripe Bowl one-day championship.
Separately, the WICB confirmed the appointment of Antiguan Zoral Barthley as chief cricket operations officer (CCOO), efffective September 22. As previously reported by CaribbeanCricket.com, Barthley was the top candidate in a shortlist with Barbadian Barry Collymore for the post.
Barthley will replace Michael hall, who resigned in June to take up a job as general manager of Independence Park Limited (IPL), the body that manages Jamaica's National Stadium complex.
The 37-year-old Barthley is a former West Indies Under-19 captain. He opened the batting for the Young West Indies in three 'Tests' against Young England in 1985. He also played for Surrey in the English County Second XI Championship.
