Powell, Maraj in T&T Squad

Jamaican batsman Ricardo Powell is one of five newcomers selected to represent Trinidad and Tobago in Friday's opening match of the Carib Beer Regional Series at Guaracara Park, Pointe-a-Pierre.

The selection panel, headed by former West Indies youth captain Dudnath Ramkessoon, named T& T Under-19 opening batsman Tishan Maraj, former national youth player Kenton Thompson, ex-West Indies Under-15 captain Davindra Krishna, off-spinner Amit Jaggernauth and West Indies limited overs batsman Powell for the match against the Leeward Islands, starting on Friday.

Powell was granted permission by the West Indies Cricket Board to represent T&T in the 2004 regional series. 

The selectors, who includes West Indies Under-19 manager Roland Sampath, former Test player David Williams and captain-elect Imran Jan have also included off-spinner Rodney Sooklal as a back-up for left-arm spinner Krishna, who has a niggling shoulder injury and did not bowl in yesterday?s final day of the Gerry Gomez Memorial Classic.

Krishna is expected to have a fitness test before the match.

Shazam Babwah, who led South to victory in the classic which concluded yesterday at Queen?s Park Oval, was named vice-captain of the team.

West Indies pacer Marlon Black is also in the team, after missing last year?s Red Stripe Bowl series in Jamaica.
