WICB Looking for Dujon Replacement

Jeff Dujon's reluctance to relocate to Antigua has cost him a long term coaching contract with the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB).

Dujon's contract with the WICB's cricket development unit expired last October and won't be renewed because the board wants to hire a Coaching Manager to run its coaching programmes and have the position operate out of the Antigua secretariat.

The 48-year-old Dujon, a classy wicketkeeper-batsman who played in 81 Tests between 1981 and 1991, will still be available for specific programmes in his native Jamaica but the board is moving in another direction in its search for a Coaching Manager.

The board has already started advertising the post, explaining that the newly created post will be for a technical officer responsible for the Coaching Development component of Dr Michael Seepersaud's cricket development unit.

The cricket development unit is responsible for all aspects of coaching in the region -- from the kiddie program right up to the first class level -- and the new Coaching Manager will work alongside Seepersaud to keep those programmes running smoothly.

The Cricket Manager will be identified in March and he'll be tasked with initiating coaching strategies and policies; preparing technical and policy papers on coaching and cricket development and managing the WICB's coaching personnel, including Territorial Development Officers.

He will also be responsible for organising and delivering "specialist" coaching programmes; managing the WICB's Coach education programme and overseeing the WICB's talent ID programme and database.

The board also wants the Coaching Manager to oversee the Shell Cricket Academy's cricket programme, which is contracted to the St George's University in Grenada and has been riddled with controversy over the years.
