Taylor Reaggravates Back Injury
Teenaged West Indies fast-bowler Jerome Taylor bowled just three overs in the second innings of the Jamaica/Trinidad game and was off the field for all of yesterday after experiencing "tightness" and a "slight pain" in his back.
The Jamaica Observer newspaper quoted team manager Maurice Clarke as saying Taylor was instructed to "rest" as a "precautionary measure".
The 19 year-old pacer, who made his Test debut last year against Sri Lanka after an impressive maiden first class season for Jamaica, returned home early from the recent West Indies tour of southern Africa after developing back problems in the first Test against Zimbabwe last November.
The injury first surfaced early in the Zimbabwe leg of the tour and prompted questions about the West Indies Cricket Board's (WICB) injury management and prevention systems.
Taylor returned to first class cricket late last month, playing in Jamaica's third match of the Carib Beer series against Barbados. But the slim-built pacer has been well below his best picking up five wickets in four games.
