Devon, Dwayne Out of 3rd Test

It's no fun being a Smith in the West Indies team for the third Test.

For different reasons, opener Devon Smith and middle order batsman Dwayne Smith were left out of the team for the Barbados Test. Devon's injury to his left thumb ruled him out of contention while Dwayne's horrific shot-selection in recent times has apparently left a sour impression on the selectors.

It appears certain Trinidad & Tobago opener Daren Ganga will get another shot to open the batting with Chris Gayle. Ganga and middle order batsmen Ricardo Powell and Ryan Hinds are battling for two spots in the match, which begins Thursday at Kensington Oval in Barbados.

It's possible both Powell and Hinds will make the final eleven but that means a makeshift opener will have to be used. As it stands, Hinds has the inside track on the final spot, coming off a knock of 84 in the first Test in Jamaica.

The left-handed Hinds, who is a useful fill-in spinner, missed the Trinidad Test with a stomach ailment.

The West Indies will go into the test with a four-prong, all-Barbados pace attack, possibly the first time four pacemen appeared in a Test together on home turf.
