Devon Smith Out Three Weeks

West Indies opener Devon Smith has been diagnosed with a fractured left thumb, an injury that will put him out of action for at least three weeks.

Smith reviewed by an orthopaedic surgeon in Barbados Friday and a fracture to the base of the distal phalanx of the left thumb was discovered. He will return to his home in Grenada and rest the injury for the next three weeks.

Smith's thumb will be reexamined on April 23, which effectively rules him out of the remainder of the Test series against England and the first ODI scheduled for April 18.

The injury comes at a tough time for the left-handed opener, who scored his maiden Test century in the first Test at Sabina Park. He was dominant in this year's Carib Beer Cup tournament, finishing atop the run-scorer list with 842 runs from eight matches (avg. 76.54).
