New Yorkers Pitch in for DCC

The Demerara Cricket club (DCC) in Georgetown, Guyana will benefit tremendously from dual gifts of a motorized lawn cutter and a high-powered generator.

DCC, which produced such West Indies stalwarts as Clive Lloyd, Roy Fredericks, Lance Gibbs and Roger Harper, received the gifts through the efforts of the New York chapter of the club.

The New York chapter whose stated goal is to sustain DCC and its rich heritage also recently assisted in raising the ground at a cost of US$11,560, which will alleviate some of the flooding that DCC is famous for. They also donated 55 pairs of sneakers, sweat suits and a number of T-shirts emblazoned with the DCC logo.

Future projects include the construction of an all-weather practice strip which will be constructed at the eastern end of the ground, the purchase of a motorized roller, and the construction of a modern state of the art pavilion.

President of the DCC New York chapter Deryck Griffith said that arrangements are being made, upon the completion of all the proposed renovations, to rename the area now known as ?Victoria Square? to FRED WILLS SQUARE. The late Fred Wills was a former president and cricket captain of the club and is considered by many to be the father of the DCC.

The New York chapter will hold a fund-raising dance on June 26th at the Nazareth hall in Brooklyn.
