Rampaul Out, Collymore In

Ravi Rampaul's tour of England is over. The teenage fast bowler, who has struggled with shin splints for the duration of the tour, will return to the Caribbean for treatment immediately.

Corey Collymore, who was named as a stand-by when the original squad was announced, will take his place.

Rampaul is suffering through excessive pronation, a condition that causes the arch of the feet to flatten and stretch soft tissues. He was given orthotics (shoe padding) and a correct pair of jogging shoes but did not get any relief.

A foot specialist in the U.K. further discovered that he had inflammation in the tendon in the fascia under the feet. He was given injections to both tendons which resolved the pain in the soles of his feet and sent for a bone scan on both shins to see the extent of any injury to his shins.

Following consultation between the team management and the West Indies Cricket Board's medical panel, it was decided to cut short Rampaul's participation in the tour.

Collymore, who has himself battled through a spate of injuries recently, has been selected as Rampaul's replacement. He is scheduled to arrive in London on Monday, July 26.
