Samuels in J'ca One-Day Squad

Marlon Samuels, the talented but out-of-favour West Indian batsman, has been included in Jamaica's 14-man squad for the upcoming regional one day tournament which gets underway in Guyana on 16 October. Samuels is joined in the Gareth Breese-led squad by other West Indies players Chris Gayle, Wavell Hinds and Carlton Baugh Jr.

There are five newcomers in the squad, which is expected to challenge strongly for the one day title this year. Tamar Lambert makes his one day debut, after being the leading Jamaican run scorer in his first season of the four day competition earlier this year.

Fast bowler Dwight Washington, who was included in the West Indies 16-man squad assembled prior to the England tour, gets his first Jamaica call-up. During the practice matches which were used as part of the selection process, Washington had figures of 17-1-88-1 in 4 matches.

Joining Washington as first time representatives for the senior team are left arm orthodox spinner Nikita Miller, Danza Hyatt and Xavier Marshall, the hard hitting right handed batsman, who led the Jamaica U-19 team to victory in the three day U-19 tournament. The inclusion of Miller, is at the expense of leg spinner Odean Brown who played in the 2004 four day tournament.

Robert Haynes, national coach, was very pleased with the selectors' decision. "It is a very balanced team with the right mixture of youth and experience", said Haynes.

The full 14-man squad is:-

2. Chris Gayle
