Chanderpaul Hit Hard by Guyana Flood

West Indies vice-captain Shivnarine Chanderpaul has lost most of his possessions in the catastrophic floods in his homeland Guyana.

According to a report from Tony Cozier, the left-hander's home on the East Coast was four feet under water. "I've been in contact with friends and family and have seen pictures on the Internet and there's nothing left downstairs," Chanderpaul said. "Everything?s damaged beyond repair ? furniture, television, fridge, stove, everything."

Only his vehicle, that had been driven to another area, and a few items were saved. Cozier reported in the Barbados Nation newspaper.

Chanderpaul explained that there was no insurance since companies did not offer coverage for flood in Georgetown, which is below sea level.

Cozier reported that West Indies players on tour of Australia have been shocked by news of the floods that have inundated Georgetown.

The three other Guyanese in the touring party -- Ramnaresh Sarwan, Reon King and media liaison Imran Khan -- were not as affected as Chanderpaul.
