Ian Allen is 'A' Team Coach

The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) plans to announce on Tuesday that Daren Ganga will captain the 'A' team on its one-month tour to Sri Lanka.

The Trinidadian right-hander, who also captained the last 'A' team tour to the U.K. and Canada, will be joined on the management team by Ian Allen (coach) and Lyndel Wright (manager).

Ganga, 26, has played in 31 Tests for the senior West Indies side, scoring 1230 runs (avg. 22.77).

Coach Ian Allen, who holds a Level 2 coaching certificate, has served recently as coach of the Windward Islands first class side. The 39-year-old Vincentian played in two Tests for the West Indies on the 1991 tour of England.

The manager, Lyndel Wright, served for four years as manager of the Jamaican national team before he was fired in December 2003. Wright is a former wrist spinning all-rounder who played in 24 first class matches for Jamaica in the early 1970s. He finished his modest career with 40 wickets at 26.82 per (best bowling 5-36).

According to information reaching CaribbeanCricket.com, the WICB will only pick 13 players for the senior team tour of Sri Lanka. The plan is to use the 'A' team personnel as back-up in case replacements are needed.
