Digicel: We Support ICC/FICA Mediation
Digicel on Tuesday said it "welcomes and supports" any offer from the ICC and the Federation of International Cricketer's Association (FICA) to help mediate the ongoing West Indies contract dispute.
In a brief statement, the Jamaica-based phone company said it was keen to have the matters at hand "resolved swiftly and professionally in the interest of West Indies cricket."
"Digicel continues to remain hopeful that a solution can be created between the WICB and WIPA that provides value to the players, fans and organisations that are supporting West Indies Cricket."
"We believe that the current situation could benefit positively from the international expertise and best practices garnered by the world?s governing body and player?s association in the interests of all parties involved."
The ICC has said it would be willing to lend a hand but could only react to a request by the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB).
The WICB's only public statement on the matter simply said it was never approached by the ICC regarding mediation.
The new Digicel statement is seen as a not-so-gentle nudge to the WICB to approach the ICC and FICA and get the matter settled.
