Val Banks Beats Lloyd

Val Banks has defeated Clive Lloyd in the race for the vice presidency of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB).

Banks, an Anguillan banker who served as VP under both Wes Hall and Teddy Griffith, won in an 8-6 vote. "There was a lot of talk about continuity and it looks like Banks got Teddy's vote," said a well-placed source at the meeting in St Maarten.

Lloyd got his six votes from the directors representing Guyana, Barbados and the Windward Islands. Banks was publicly backed by Trinidad & Tobago, Jamaica and the Leewards.

Banks and Griffith, as VP and president, each owned a vote which tilted the race in the incumbent's favour.

At the meeting Sunday, Trinidadian media magnate Ken Gordon was confirmed as the new WICB president.

Meanwhile, a source said the report from the Sponsorship Review Committee led by Justice Anthony Lucky, was not submitted for review at the meetings. The report will be formally handed over to Gordon at a ceremony in Trinidad & Tobago next week.
