WICB Approves Bennett King Plan

The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has signed off on a "regional development plan" for cricket created by head coach Bennett King that involves some 114 players working year-round.

As first reported by CaribbeanCricket.com, the development unit has been scrapped in favour of Bennett King's team unit handling all aspect of developing cricket in the region.

According to the WICB, the objective of the plan is to:

* To involve one hundred and fourteen (114) players in the program working on their game on a continuous basis.

* To prepare players who are capable of performing successfully at first class and international level.

* To enhance the overall development of regional cricketers.

* To implement the new model for the Regional Cricket program.

* To improve relationships with all relevant stakeholders.

* To incorporate a year round training program into every major cricketing region in the West Indies.

The board did not say how it plans to fund the various aspects of the program.

However, the WICB said two major fund-raising projects initially to be launched in the Trinidad & Tobago market were also approved. Details on the projects were kept under wraps.

These projects will be headed by Peter Ganteaume and Luis Le Gendre.
