Shillingford is New LICA President

The Leeward Islands Cricket Association (LICA) finally has a president after an aborted election two months ago and he is a familiar face in West Indies cricket circles.

After a February meeting that ended in chaos and confusion, LICA officials met last Saturday and elected former WICB chief executive Gregory Shillingford as its new president. Incumbent Carlisle Powell, a long-time WICB director, did not attend the meeting but has since sent a letter of resignation to the WICB.

Shillingford, a Dominica-born business executive who now lives in Antigua, received support from the five associations that showed up for the meeting (St Kitts, Antigua, US Virgin Islands, British Virgin Islands, Montserrat and St Maarten).

Shillingford, who was ousted by the Wes Hall-led WICB administration and replaced by the since-fired Roger Brathwaite, will join Ingleton Liburd as the new executives to shape the future of cricket in the Leeward Islands.

It is now a mere formality that either Shillingford or Liburd will become one of LICA's two representatives on the WICB.
