Sarwan Named Vice Captain

The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has finally named Ramnaresh Sarwan as Brian Lara's deputy for the remainder of the 2006 home series.

The appointment was confirmed at the WICB's Board meeting held on May 27-28 in Trinidad & Tobago. The 25-year-old Guyanese is now in line to succeed Brian Lara after the 2007 World Cup, a source told CaribbeanCricket.com.

Sarwan has performed outstandingly during his career and won the Man-of-the-Series award in the just-concluded One-Day International Series between the West Indies and India.

Sarwan has played in 59 Tests and 102 ODIs.

He is currently number two in the International Cricket Council?s (ICC) ODI rankings.
