Sarwan, Gayle in 20/20 SuperStar Squad

Stanford 20/20 today announced a 20-man Super Stars squad to take on South Africa on November 10th for a US$5M winner-take-all prize.

The squad includes 13 players with international experience, including West Indies vice captain Ramnaresh Sarwan and opening batsman Chris Gayle.

Other players with international experience named are Marlon Samuels, Jerome Taylor, Wavell Hinds, Mervyn Dillon, Daren Ganga, Pedro Collins, Carlton Baugh Jr, Rawl Lewis, Darren Sammy, Mahendra Nagamootoo and Narsingh Deonarine.

The squad includes two wicketkeepers -- Jamaican Baugh and Grenadian Andre Fletcher. Trinidad & Tobago's Denesh Ramdin was a surprise omission.

Although Jamaica was knocked out in the quarter final by eventual winner Guyana they got five players on the squad while Guyana also took five places. Grenada took four places in Lewis, Fletcher, fast bowler Nelon Pascal and left arm spinner Dennis George.

Hard hitting Trinidadian all-rounder Kieron Pollard makes the squad alongside Ganga and West Indies pacer Dillon.

Nevisian allrounder Tonito Willet whose 84 was the highest score of the tournament also makes the squad. His team mate, youngster Kieron Powell along with 15 year old Anguillan fast bowler Kelbert Walters and Trinidad and Tobago opening batsman William Perkins, while not in the 20 man squad, were invited to train with the squad.

The youngsters impressed the legends and the selection panel, comprising the 14 legends of West Indies cricket, felt that the camp would be a beneficial experience for their cricket development.

The camp runs from October 20 to November 10.

Legendary West Indian spinner Lance Gibbs will manage the squad and David Williams, the Trinidad and Tobago coach was named head coach. He will have Barbadian Hendy Springer as his assistant and Evans 'Jowaki' Jones as the physical trainer. A physiotherapist will also be named shortly.
