Stuart Williams is Leewards Chief Selector

Former West Indies opening batsman Stuart Williams has been elected chairman of selectors for the Leeward Islands senior cricket team.

Williams, a Nevisian right-handed batsman who played in 31 Test matches for the West Indies, will head up a three-man panel that includes Antiguan Ralston Otto and Kittitian Percy Daniel.

The new panel was elected at an ordinary general meeting of the Leeward Islands Cricket Association (LICA) held on Aug. 12 in Antigua.

At the meeting, the association also announced that its cricket tournaments have been rescheduled and will now start in Oct. 2006. Match schedules for the Leeward Islands three-day and one-day tournaments and the LICA Under-15 tournaments were also released.

LICA also announced the establishment of a Cricket Committee to design and operate a cricket development program throughout its eight territories (Anguilla, Antigua & Barbuda, Montserrat, Nevis, St Kitts, St Maarten, USVI and BVI).

The Committee will be made up of selected coaches and development officers drawn from the territories.

Gregory Georges and Avondale Thomas, two accountants who served on the WICB's "Lucky Committee," were appointed as auditors.

The association also approved the establishment of the positions of one Development Officer each for the following pairs of islands -- Antigua and Montserrat, St Kitts and Nevis, Anguilla and St Marten, USVI and BVI.

LICA said the officers will be nominated by the islands and the positions will be co-funded by the WICB.
