Stanford 20/20 SuperStar Game Cancelled

The Stanford 20/20 SuperStar game has been cancelled, according to information reaching CaribbeanCricket.com.

The decision to scrap the US$5 million winner-take-all game was made after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) refused to tinker with the itinerary for the upcoming West Indies tour to allow some players to play in Stanford's game.

According to a well-placed source, Stanford announced the cancellation to a group of regional players participating in a special training camp in Antigua.

The game, which is scheduled for November 10, clashes directly with the West Indies' tour of Pakistan.

The West Indies will arrive in Pakistan on November 7 and the first Test is scheduled to start in Lahore on November 11.

The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has worked hard behind the scenes to get the Pakistanis to push back the tour to accommodate Stanford's game, which pits a mix of Caribbean players against a team from South Africa.

However, the WICB's attempts failed, prompting Stanford to accuse the board of not following through on its promise to support his tournament.

The WICB has denied that charge but the dispute forced the resignation of Clive Lloyd from the Stanford 20/20 board of directors recently.
